The son of Robert Pemberton; called to the bar from Lincoln's Inn, he was King's Counsel (1829), Conservative MP for Rye (1831-32) and Ripon (1835-43) and attorney-general to the prince of Wales (1841-43). He was raised to the peerage in 1858.
