Educated under Samuel Parr and at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, with Robert Nares he conducted of The British Critic, and was author of Anecdotes of Literature and Scarce Books (1806-12) and The Sexagenarian (1817), an autobiography containing portraits of his contemporaries under concealed names.
