Catharine Amelia Smith [née Pybus] (1768-1852)
The daughter of John Pybus, English ambassador to Ceylon; in 1800 she married Sydney
Smith, wit and writer for the Edinburgh Review.
Windham Smith (1813-1871)
The younger son of Sydney Smith, educated at the Charterhouse (1823); known as “The
Assassin” he had a reputation as a dandy and sportsman who devoted himself to
horse-racing.
