Letters and Journals of Lord Byron
Lord Byron to Thomas Moore, [April 1812?]
“I should have answered your note yesterday, but I hoped to
have seen you this morning. I must consult with you about the day we dine with Sir Francis. I suppose we shall meet at Lady Spencer’s to-night. I did not know that you were
at Miss Berry’s the other night, or I
should have certainly gone there.
“As usual, I am in all sorts of scrapes, though none, at
present, of a martial description. Believe me, &c.’
Mary Berry (1763-1852)

diarist and one of Horace Walpole's primary correspondents.
Sir Francis Burdett, fifth baronet (1770-1844)
Whig MP for Westminster (1807-1837) who was imprisoned on political charges in 1810 and
again in 1820; in the 1830s he voted with the Conservatives.
