His obituary thus notes the career of this son, exemplifying every fine filial quality which distinguishes the Scottish people, and a brother most dearly beloved.
Died, on the 8th of January, at Cape Town, on his passage from India, Lieut.-Colonel John Stuart Jerdan, of the Bombay
Infantry, and of Kelso, in Roxburghshire. After many years of important services,
having earned the repeated thanks of the Governor-General, medals, and other
distinctions, his career closed where it commenced, with military honour. As a
