Son of the fourth earl (d. 1849); he left Westminster School to fight at Waterloo, afterwards serving in the Ionian Islands and India; he published Personal Narrative of a Journey from India to England, 2 vols (1825) and was whig MP for East Norfolk (1832-35) and was private secretary to Lord John Russell.
