The younger son of George Hibbert (1757-1837) and brother of Nathaniel Hibbert (1794-1865); educated at Eton and Trinity College, Cambridge, he succeeded his father at the West India Dock Company. He left the bulk of his estate to Sydney George Holland (1855-1931), Nathaniel's grandson.
