The younger brother of Henry Addington, Lord Sidmouth, he was educated at at Brasenose College, Oxford and was MP for Truro (1787-90), Winchelsea (1794-96), Wendover (1796-1802), Bossiney (1802-03), and Harwich (1803-18).
